The Properties

  • Another fantastic stay at the Molino

"This was our 3rd stay at Molino del Carmen and it didn't disappoint. We went with a big group of friends and lots of kids - we all had a blast. The new sun terrace was fantastic and made our pool days just perfect. The accommodation is exceptional and so well equppied. Not forgetting the most comfortable beds ever! Another great stay at the Molino we can't wait for next year." - M-L

  • Perfect Family Get Together

"This was my 4th stay at the Molino Del Carmen. It is definitely ‘My Happy Place’ and this time I shared this beautiful renovated olive mill with my whole family. It was the perfect place for us all to come together but with each family having their own space. We had the whole Molino to ourselves staying in all 8 apartments including the new La Frusquita. Every apartment has its own character and charm and most of them have wonderful views across the mountains to Gibraltar. Gaucin is a relaxing peaceful whitewashed village with several excellent restaurants. We particularly enjoyed a music and tapas evening at La Fructousa and several delightful afternoons at Casa Antonia’s in the main square. The Molino is managed by the lovely Josefi who is kindness itself and who was always available to help with anything we needed. She and her team do an amazing job and all the apartments were spotlessly clean and comfortable. I cannot recommend Molino Del Carmen enough it is simply beautiful and I will absolutely be returning whenever I get the chance." Katie

  • Mesmerizing Views, A Special Place

"We recently spent an idyllic week in the Casa Carmen apartment at the Molino del Carmen with family and friends. We had children aged between 4 and 16 with us and everyone loved their stay. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the stunning pool area, which had an adjacent balcony, providing ample space for both kids to enjoy splashing around while the very comfortable sunbeds allowed us to relax and soak up the breathtaking views of the Andalusian mountains and the coast of African in the distance. The castle on the edge of the village, beautifully lit up at night, added to the fairytale-like atmosphere."

  • Charming, authentic stay in the mountains of Andalucia with breathtaking views

"We had a wonderful one week stay in Casa Carmen, Molino del Carmen. A beautifully restored, charming, spacious self-catering apartment spread over two floors. The views were incredible, a balm for the soul. Our favourite "room" was the terrace - shaded, with a refreshing breeze and breathtaking views. Comfortable beds in both rooms, a gorgeous sun room where we were reading every morning (again, with stunning views) and a kitchen that has everything you need. The living / dining room is spread over the whole ground floor, incredibly cosy and full of beautiful original features (The Molino is a converted olive mill). My daughter loved the shared pool for cooling off from the sun every afternoon. Location is central, with free parking, everything walkable within Gaucin. Gaucin itself is a lovely mountain village, feels authentic and away from the major tourist spots in the region - a wonderful base to explore the white mountain villages of Andalucia. Great communication with owners on booking and incredibly warm welcome by Josefi who manages the house locally - we received lots of helpful tips what to do in the area, where to eat etc. We will definitely be back!" - Christine

  • Fantastic Holiday!

"I don’t usually write reviews but after our fantastic week at Molino Del Carmen, I feel compelled to do so! My family and I stayed here for one week in August. From our initial enquiry right through into our stay, the communication from host Pip was prompt and very informative. The apartment is decorated to an extremely high standard and is exceptionally clean. The beds are very comfy with lovely crisp linens too. We particularly enjoyed the breathtaking views from the terrace and our tweens loved hanging out in the pool. The village of Gaucin is beautiful with some fantastic restaurants to suit all tastes. We thoroughly recommend and we are already planning our next visit!!" - Sally

  • Best family holiday destination - EVER!

"We are regular travellers with high standards and yet we were blown away by our stay at Molino Del Carmen. By far, the nicest place we have stayed - our highlights include the incredible room terrace with views of Gibraltar to the Atlas Mountains, the incredible decor and style which made us feel like royalty and the pool which we were lucky enough to have to ourselves. Pip and the whole team were really easy to deal with and we would recommend this place to anyone looking for a glimpse of Spanish heaven." - Neha

  • A Beautiful Escape

"A beautiful setting with fabulous staff and attention to detail. The town is charming, historic and we enjoyed food of the highest standard. Wonderful bedding in bedroom with panoramic views of the mountains." - Sue

the story of

Molino Del Carmen

Carmen is a novella by Prosper Mérimée, written and first published in 1845. It has been adapted into a number of dramatic works, including the famous opera of the same name by Georges Bizet.

According to a letter Mérimée wrote to the Countess of Montijo, Carmen was inspired by a story she told him on his visit to Spain in 1830.

Seville, Ronda and Gaucin are all places mentioned in the story, and all of the villas here at the Molino are named after characters from the book.

"Everything, señor, everything; I offered her everything, if only she would love me again."
-Don José

Chapter 3: Carmen by Prosper Mérimée.

Gaucín has enjoyed a vast and chequered history for such a small town with its current population at around 2 000. The town’s history starts in pre-historic times, and cave paintings from this time are still visible in Gaucín today.

At Molino Del Carmen, guests are accommodated with the exquisite hospitality that has long been the custom in this part of Spain. Eight chic self-catering properties, most with uninterrupted views down to the Mediterranean Sea, Gibraltar and the Rif mountains of North Africa, offer cool, classic surroundings.

Gibraltar is the closest airport (approx. 45 minute drive). Málaga is about a 1.5 hour drive but has the most connections. Sevilla and Jérez airports are other alternatives and are both about a 2 hour drive.
